Introduction to Engineering

The purpose of this e-book is to provide details about different disciplines of engineering to students who are planning to pursue a degree in engineering and help them to decide on a career in engineering. Prof. Darius Gnanaraj S is working as a Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. He received his Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai, India, and a Master’s degree in Engineering Design from the College of Engineering (CEG), Anna University, Chennai, India. He has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience. His research interests are: Tribology (Friction, Wear and Lubrication), Industrial Ergonomics, Office Ergonomics, and Lightweight materials. He has successfully completed 8 funded projects so far. He has published 40 research papers in reputed journals and presented 74 papers in International as well as national conferences. He has compiled two colloquium proceedings. His citation index is 969, h-index is 6, and i10 index is 4.
